Day 1: Auckland – The Chateau Tongariro (L, D)
We depart Auckland and drive through the heart of the Waikato farmland before we stop at Huhu Café in Waitomo for lunch. We continue through the rugged farming landscape to Taumarunui to arrive at the Chateau Tongariro Hotel in time to relax before dining in this classic, landmark hotel this evening.
Day 2: The Chateau Tongariro – Wellington (B, L, D)
We drive around the slopes of Mt Ruapehu to Ohakune and on to Taihape for morning tea before heading further south to a lovely lodge on the Te Horo coast for a private lunch. Arriving in Wellington we check into your five star downtown hotel close to the Event Centre where the World of Wearable Art Awards is held. We dine in the Intercontinental this evening.
Day 3: Wellington sightseeing – World of Wearable Arts Awards (B, L, D)
Relax and enjoy sightseeing in our capital city. We visit Te Papa Museum, our national museum and the Botanic Gardens where it's tuliptime. We tour the outer bays and drive up Mt Victoria for the views. We dine at an acclaimed Wellington restaurant before attending the 8pm performance of the Brancott Estate World of Wearable Art Awards. Enjoy a close up view of this spectacular event from your premium seat.
Day 4: Wellington – Martinborough (B, L, D)
We drive over the Rimutaka Ranges to Greytown where the main street is lined with
Victorian-era buildings and boutique shops. We visit Melanie Greenwood's stunning Richmond Garden and lunch at Lake Ferry Hotel where the whitebait season is in full swing. We wine taste at Te Kairanga vineyard before calling into Martinborough village. We dine in Martinborough this evening.
Day 5: Martinborough – Napier, Hawkes Bay (B, L, D)
We visit Stonehenge Aotearoa for a fascinating insight into the wonders of astronomy. Rising out of the farm paddocks, it has to be seen to be believed! We lunch with Jeanette and Alan Gates warm hosts and creators of beautiful Awaiti Garden. Travelling north through the Wairarapa and Hawkes Bay countryside to check into Te Pania Hotel on the waterfront. We dine in the hotel.
Day 6: Hawkes Bay sightseeing (B, L, D)
Accompanied by a specialist Art Deco guide we drive leisurely along the Art Deco trail. After lunch at Clifton Bay Café on the water's edge at Te Awanga with views out to Cape Kidnappers, we tour to Havelock North along the picturesque Tukituki Road and then to Hastings. We wine taste at Mission Estate vineyard before returning to Napier. We dine at Te Pania this evening.
Day 7: Napier – Auckland (B, L)
We drive over the ranges to Taupo. Our farewell lunch is hosted by Tony and Susan Dalby at beautiful Wharewaka Lodge on the shores of Lake Taupo. We view the powerful Huka Falls before driving back to Auckland.
