Thinking of a small group tour?

Considering a guided tour for your New Zealand vacation? There’s so much to love about small group travel. Read on to discover whether a small group tour is the right style of travel for you.

Get off the beaten track

Travelling in a smaller group means you’ll enjoy more off the beaten track experiences.

From the secluded sand dunes of the Hokianga Harbour in Northland to sailing to secluded hot pools on Lake Rotoiti or enjoying a private homestead lunch with local Kiwi hosts in the Canterbury countryside, having less people on tour opens the doors to the real New Zealand.

Small groups are able to visit places that big tour groups simply can’t and it’s always these experiences that become the most unforgettable highlights of your time in New Zealand.

Personal attention from your MoaTrek Kiwi Guide

On one of our small group tours, one of the most important pieces of the puzzle is your guide. An experienced and friendly guide with exceptional attention to detail will make your New Zealand tour unforgettable.

All of our MoaTrek Kiwi Guides are highly knowledgeable, know our country so well and are passionate about sharing it with visitors.

They’re “quintessential Kiwis” with a great sense of humour and whether you’re interested in our colourful culture, history, flora or fauna our MoaTrek expert Kiwi Guides will bring New Zealand to life.

Meet the locals

When we ask guests what they love most of all about our tours, they always say the same thing. It’s meeting the amazing people out on the road such as locals we visit for special lunches or activities, and of course our Kiwi Guides.

You’ll love meeting our mates like Pete in the Hokianga, sailing on Lake Rotoiti with Matt and his team, sharing family stories with Karen and Tracey in Lake Tarawera and a hosted country lunch in Canterbury with Ian and Diana.

These are the moments you’ll feel like you’re experiencing the real New Zealand.

Enjoy great company and lots of laughs

Touring New Zealand with a small group of like-minded people from all over the world makes for plenty of good times and new friendships.

When you’re travelling in a group of 18 or less, you’re bound to meet people with whom you have lots in common, and yet still find it possible to mix and mingle with everybody during meal times.

Activities like walking at Aoraki Mt Cook, wine tasting in Marlborough and cruising on Milford Sound are so much more fun and memorable when you’re sharing the moment with new friends.

A flexible schedule

On large-group coach tours, itineraries are often confined to a tight and rigid schedule, leaving no opportunities for flexibility or surprises.

Enjoying your time soaking in your very own hot pool at Lake Rotoiti? Let’s stay a little while longer! Are there plenty of cheeky Kea parrots on our way through Arthur’s Pass National Park? Take your time with photographs to ensure you get the perfect shot.

With a small group, we don’t like to hurry – after all, you are on vacation.

Small group travel – the best way to discover New Zealand

We think travelling New Zealand in a small group is the best way to see our wonderful country, so much so in fact that we’ve been doing this since 1971!

Small group touring reminds us of how we used to travel on family holidays as kids, to all the same places we show our guests each year at MoaTrek. Keen to find out more? See all our New Zealand small group tours here or get in touch now. Cheers!
